Everyone went to Liverpool in a fairly confident frame of mind knowing how hard the girls had worked, and with the previous weeks good results from the control competition at Newcastle . However, we were swiftly brought back down to earth after the scores from the girls floor routines were given out, we then realised how strict the judging was going to be. To everyone's relief the other competitor’s scores followed suit.
The girls moved on to Range and Conditioning where Beth was first up, unfortunately the nerves seemed to kick in and despite going clean she did not quite get the required pass mark. Stacey, however, produced a good conditioning set with a score of 11.10. Our hearts sank thinking that Beth wasn't going to pass no matter how well she performed on the rest of the pieces.
Both girls produced good vaults and then went clean on bars with excellent routines.
The final piece was beam, Stacey was up first, and despite two falls scored enough to see her pass her Compulsory Level 2. Beth had 1 fall on beam and then it was a nerve racking wait to see if she had done enough to be able to re-take the conditioning.
To everyone's relief she had, and then produced a score of 11.00 which meant she had also passed her Level 2. This is a fantastic achievement for South Durham as only 14 gymnasts from the 30 competitors passed.
Well done - Stacey and Beth all the hard work has paid off .
We are all very proud of you both even though you have aged your parents, Nic and Rach by at least 10 years!
