LORD SEBASTIAN COE VISIT
Lord Sebastian Coe, Double Olympic Gold and Silver medallist paid a visit to our gym as he toured some of the regions top sporting facilities which will feature in the London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp (PGTC) Guide. During the visit Lord Coe met with some of our young toddlers who attend our weekly Baby Gym sessions and then took time to watch some of our senior elite girls, who demonstrated their skills on the bars and beam.

OLYMPIC & SPORTS AWARD DISPLAYS
Beth Donaldson, Kelsey Garbutt and Amy Tinkler went to the Locomotion for the hand over of the Olympic Flag for 2012. The girls did a beam display and then each one of them handed over the Chinese, Great Britain and the Olympic Flag to the Mayor of Sedgefield Borough and Chinese Dignitaries who attended the display.

South Durham was then asked again if they would do a display for the North of England Sports Awards. Kelsey Garbutt, Emily Gargan and Amy Tinkler did another beam display for 320 guests who attended the awards. One of the guests was our very own Cathy Osborne who won Sedgefield Coach of the year. The girls had an excellent time and enjoyed all the attention and spot lights on them. It was reported that South Durham had provided the best display that the Sports Awards had ever had! Well done girls and congratulations to Cathy on her award!
ELITE SUMMER CAMP 1 2009
In our first summer camp, we were joined by South Essex, Wales and Jersey. The atmosphere in the gym was amasing. There was a lot of talent in the gym and all the girls wanted to blow our famous hooter for achieving a new skill. When the hooter is blown the whole gym has to stop and watch the gymnast perform their new move. They were then awarded with 3 stickers after showing and completing the move successfully. At the end of the day the girls would count how many stickers they had achieved throughout the day and prizes were given out to first, second and third place. Every year we do a big group dance, this year it was to Michael Jackson. The girls had an amasing time learning all the dance steps with Leonni and Roxanne. Camps are also a good time for the girls to socialize with gymnasts from around the country. On Tuesday evening we all went to Thorpe Farm, had a BBQ and were entertained by the great out doors. A night that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
ELITE SUMMER CAMP 2 2009
Redcar, The Academy, Darlington and Stockport gymnasts joined us for our second camp. Again the girls as high as balloons, excited at the thought of more stamps and prizes! As well as counting stickers every day and awarding prizes, we do an all round first, second and third prize at the end of the week for the girls who collected the most stamps in the whole week. The girls once again showed parents on the Friday how hard they had trained throughout the week and how much they enjoyed doing the group dance to Fame! We also enjoyed another great night at Thorpe Farm. Thanks to Jo and Paul for hosting us for both weeks.
ROMANIAN TRAINING CAMP
Beth has been selected to go with the British Squad to train in Romania for a week of intense training in April. This is a great achievement for Beth, who for the first time last year, after passing her level 2 made National Squad. Beth has gone from strength to strength, with all her hard work and determination. Well done Beth, we all wish you the best and hope you have a great time, training with some of the best girls in the world.
TEAM GYM
We are pleased to open a new section to South Durham – Team Gym. This involves a group of a minimum of 6 gymnasts performing vault, trampette, tumble and a floor routine in synchronisation. The girls work with Julie twice a week and the word out there is South Durham are the team to beat!! Many of our retired elite gymnasts have returned to train and it is great to have them back in the gym. Their first competition is 6 th July 08. We wish them the very best of luck.
