Meet the Team

Overseen by a Board of Trustees, we are a very proud team of over 25, fully trained and certified, coaches and staff, and place the participants welfare at the centre of everything we do.

Directed by Nicola Preston & Rachael Wright, the Club has built a team of passionate and committed coaches & volunteers, with over two centuries of excellent coaching experience combined. All our coaches and support staff have enhanced DBS checks and Safeguarding qualifications.

    Kelly is the club's Head Coach and Squad Manager. Kelly is a High Performance Coach (Women's Artistic) and a Brevet (International) Judge!

  • Mrs Gates

    Club Founder

    • About Mrs Gates

    A founder of the Club in 1986 - Mrs Gates is the true heart and sole of South Durham Gymnastics. Now retired from coaching, Mrs Gates continues to support the club behind the scenes and is the clubs biggest supporter.

    Welfare Officer

    A former Primary School Head Teacher, Ali is one of the clubs Welfare Officers.

  • Mel

    Development Manager & Welfare Officer

    • About Mel

    A former gymnast at South Durham Gymnastics, now the clubs Development Manager - overseeing policies, procedures and communications. Mel is also a club Welfare Officer alongside Ali.

    A former international gymnast and Pink Lady, Jade has developed her passion for gymnastics in coaching. A Level 3 coach, working towards her Level 4 - Jade is a truly passionate coach!

    Senior Coach

    Julie is a Level 3 coach and loves coaching all pieces! Outside the gym, Ju designs for Pink Leisurewear. She enjoys regular exercise whether it be weights at the gym, a bit of boxing, walking or gardening. Ju loves a challenge and an adventure!

    Katie is a Level 2 coach, and her favourite pieces to coach are floor and bars! Katie has loved gymnastics from a very young age - she competed for South Durham and still enjoys tumbling in a local Cheer Squad! Katie recently graduated from Durham University for a Sport and Exercise Science Degree.

    Sophie is a Level 2 coach - working towards her Level 3. She is also a National Judge! Sophie's favourite piece to coach is bars and her favourite piece to judge is floor! If there’s one thing Sophie LOVES to do it’s dance! Travelling is a huge part of Sophie's life outsude of the gym - her favourite holiday destination is the Maldvies!
