British Gymnastics Master Coach Award

The master coach award recognises outstanding achievement by British coaches and is awarded to the personal coaches of any master gymnast. The club are delighted to announce that Nicola Preston and Rachael Wright received the master coach award for coaching a gymnast who represented Great Britain at the 2015 World Championships and the 2016 Olympic Games. Nic and Rach were presented with their awards this weekend at the 2017 British Championships.[..]

2017 British Championships

This weekend saw the first major competition of the 2017 British Gymnastics calendar with the British Championships held in Liverpool, starting with podium training on Thursday, junior all around competition Friday, senior all around competition Saturday and apparatus finals on Sunday. The club had two representatives with Mia Scott taking part in the junior competition and Leah Rockett in the senior competition.

Compulsory, National and Development Grades 2017

On Sunday the Elite Squad had their first competition of 2017 at their compulsory, national and development grades held at the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy.
The first round saw our development 5, development 4, national 2, compulsory 4 and compulsory 3 girls take to the floor where they all had to compete routines on range, vault, bars, beam and floor. North Grades 2017

A number of our gymnasts from the Intermediate Squad took part in North Grades at the weekend, having a very successful competition with every gymnast from the club passing their grade! The gymnasts had to deliver routines on all four pieces from a set of compulsory skills ranging from grade 6 all the way down to grade 1.

Pink Events Set Work Competition

The general and intermediate squad gymnasts had an awesome competition at the weekend, winning lost of ribbons, medals and trophies. The gymnasts competed on floor, range and bench/beam where they showed off set routines to our panels of judges. South Durham competed against gymnasts from Redcar, Darlington, Tyneside, Gymtopia and Wansbeck with 165 gymnasts taking part on the day!

The pink coaches had a successful night at the North of England Gymnastics Awards at the weekend where 4 different awards were awarded to the club and coaches!

Key Steps Competition

Today we saw our gym filled with hundreds of children from over 10 different schools taking part in the annual Key Steps competition. We had a record number of children competing on both the vault and floor, displaying well learnt set routines to our team of judges with all children in each separate year group showing the exact same floor sequence and vault.

North of England Regional Squad

Huge congratulations to these 12 superstars who have been selected for the North of England Regional Squad for 2017. The girls were chosen following their outstanding results from last year and will attend their first out of four squads at the end of February. The girls will now train alongside the best gymnasts from around the North region in their respective age groups!
