Sunday saw the very first competition of 2018 for our General Squad gymnasts with the Pink Events Set Works Championships taking place at Redcar Gymnastics Club. The competition consisted of gymnasts performing set routines on the floor, range and beam from level 6 to level 1. The competition was a huge success for the Pink Ladies who took away a ton of ribbons, medals and trophies. Well done to everyone who took part and special mention to our overall winners!

The club were very proud to be able to take 8 of our gymnasts down to the English Championships at the weekend. The first of our girls travelled down South to take part in podium training on Thursday where they were able to get a feel of the equipment and the competition hall where they would be competing the following day. The club are very proud to announce that these 3 Pink Ladies have made it on to National Squads once again for 2018. Well done to Mia and Leah who have been selected for the Great British Junior National Squad and Mercedes who has been selected for the Great British Pathway Development Squad. Our first North Regional Squad of 2018 took place at the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy on Saturday 6th January.

The South Durham Girls trained alongside many other clubs in the region, working with different gymnasts and coaches for the day, taking away lots of great memories and new friends. Special mention to Eva-Mae who won the conditioning challenge winning herself a pink bag!

Sometimes Christmas comes early and today we had a surprise visit from Actor Robson Green! A keen supporter of the club, Robson was able to witness some amazing gymnastics from the elite gymnasts. He also chatted with the girls and coaches providing inspiration and advice for success as well as sharing a laugh or two. Not to be outdone by the amazing displays of skill and courage Robson ended with a display of his own on the vault and beam![..]

South Durham Gymnastics Club were proud to host the Durham Dales Schools Gymnastics Festival on Tuesday. The morning and afternoon saw the gym buzzing with lots of school children who were excited to show everybody their group gymnastics routines that they had been working hard on back at their schools with their teachers! South Durham Gymnastics Club once again hosted the North Voluntary Team Championships at the weekend which saw clubs from all around the North compete in from level 7 all the way to level 3.

South Durham has 4 teams qualify and girls from both the elite and intermediate squads worked together to achieve some excellent results!

The start of November saw our two fabulous pink ladies Mercedes and Elise travel down to Guildford to compete in the National Voluntary Levels against top gymnasts in the country for their age groups.

Mercedes was first up to compete on the Saturday in the Level 2 competition, representing South Durham Gymnastics Club. She put in a great effort showing lots of big skills, with a few uncharacteristic falls and still finishing in a fabulous 8th place!

Our elite squad gymnasts had a great weekend as they travelled down to compete in the Double Downie Cup in Nottingham. Our gymnasts competed across 3 days, taking away lots of valuable experiences and making lots of new friends along the way! Well done to our winners!

Our North Regional Squad gymnasts had a great day as they travelled to the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy to have a day of training with other gymnasts and coaches from around the region. As most girls had competitions coming up the following weekend the girls took part in a 'control competition' and South Durham performed beautifully to win the following:
